ABOUT
Gaby Clingman is a South Africa-born cinematographer, writer, and director based in New York, where she is pursuing her MFA in Film at NYU Tisch. She began her career at Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories Productions, contributing to Stronger, Wildlife, and the Broadway revival of Sunday in the Park with George. She later led social media campaigns for Harriet and Honey Boy at Stay Gold Features, and worked as personal photographer to musician and actor Common.
Gaby’s work explores women confronting the systems—societal, religious, or familial—that have shaped and silenced them. As a cinematographer, she thinks in terms of when the camera should witness, when it should confront, and when it should disappear. She’s drawn to what an environment offers without forcing it and how light, texture, and tension can be shaped rather than imposed.
Gaby is currently developing her first feature film.
